The Old Head of Kinsale is a headland near Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland. An early lighthouse was established here in the 17th century by Robert Reading. Today the Old Head of Kinsale is popular with golfers who come to play on its 18 Hole golf course that opened in 1997 and hosted thousands of player every year.
Old Head Golf Links is built on a 220-acre diamond of land, jutting out over two miles into the Atlantic Ocean. The promontory is almost an island with numerous caves running beneath your feet as you play the course.
The land and this area of ocean where theaters of the war between the Spanish invincible armada and the English troops and fleet around 1600.
The links and practice area occupy 180 acres and the remaining 40 acres of unspoilt cliff (rising in places to over 300 feet) frame the course.
